Hervé Gross, PhD

Reservoir engineer with expertise in uncertainty quantification

Dr. Hervé Gross joined Advanced Resources and Risk Technology in 2013 with an ambition to find an optimal combination of geostatistical expertise with reservoir engineering. Prior to this, he worked for Chevron as a reservoir simulation consultant. He helped business units in their field development needs and as a part of the Chevron Energy Technology Company, he successfully managed projects requiring innovative tools and workflows. During seven years, Dr. Gross contributed to green field evaluations, deterministic and stochastic history-matching, and field development optimization under uncertainty. Dr. Gross was also involved in strategic planning projects, intellectual property committees, and was part of internal development programs for future leaders.

Dr. Gross enjoys working at the interface between field units engineers and research scientists. As such, he has contributed to the deployment of several new technologies and has taken an active role in reporting business needs back to research groups. As an integral part of his consulting missions, and in one of the most enjoyable part of his consultant role, he has taught classes in uncertainty quantification, stochastic optimization and subsurface assessment in countries on five continents.

Dr. Hervé Gross graduated from the School of Earth Sciences, in the Petroleum Engineering Department of Stanford University (now Energy Resources Engineering) with a PhD ('06) and a MS ('03), in the SUPRI-A research group. He lives in San Francisco with his family. Beyond the diversity, the culture, and the creativity that the Bay Area is famous for, Hervé has always been amazed by the energy of this region and by the sea changes that follow when creativity, dedication and hard work are successfully combined.
